Download Windows For Workgroups 3.11 Iso

Windows 3.1x (codenamed Janus) is a series of 16-bit operating systems, produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers. The series began with Windows 3.1, which was first sold during April 1992 as a successor to Windows 3.0. Subsequent versions were released between 1992 and 1994 until the series was superseded by Windows 95. During its lifespan, Windows 3.1 introduced various enhancements to the still MS-DOS-based platform, including improved system stability, expanded support for multimedia, TrueType fonts, and workgroup networking.

Windows 3.1 was originally released on April 6, 1992; official support for Windows 3.1 ended on December 31, 2001, and OEM licensing for Windows for Workgroups 3.11 on embedded systems continued to be available until November 1, 2008. The emulator works well on this website, however the ZIP file is a scam. I investigated it carefully and came to the conclusion that it is a silly joke by some teenage wannabe h4x0r.
The archive actually includes most of what is presented in the browser emulator, however WIN.COM is a player that displays the Windows 3.11 splash screen that plays two MODEM dialing out sound files. First of all, I have no freaking Dialup MODEM anymore, it's 2017 for crying out loud! So this is when my suspicion already started.
Yet I thought about a faulty configuration, which wasn't the case. Then I investigated the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and subdirectories. The NE2000 directory is missing, so is WINPCKT. Which are referred to in the Batchfile. Meaning: the packet driver is missing and not loaded.
My advice, play with it in the browser emulator, but don't download the ZIP file. It's pathetic! I ran this zip file through several virus checkers, and it came up clean. Here's what I think happened.
This version of Windows is configured with Trumpet Winsock, which is how Windows users used to dial in to their ISP. It's configured to 'dial in' to a virtual ISP that runs in AWS. When you downloaded it and ran it in native DOSBox, this initiated an outgoing connection on port 12347, which your malware detection saw as suspicious activity. The window hung because it was unable to establish a connection, and because old Windows software was notoriously bad at handling failure cases like this.

I extracted the file, and my eset anti-virus popped up claiming that one of the unpacked files was a trojan. The file was './win31/TRUMPET/WINAPPS/TRUMPINg.EXE'. I ignored the claim for the moment, and decided to launch the WIN.BAT file with DOSBox. It immediately opened countless windows inside the Windows 3.1 emulation, than it opened another one that said it was dialing something.
It took a while to get it to close. Alt-F4 did not work, I had to press the Windows 8 start button, go back to the desktop and end the process with task manager. I do not think this file is trustworthy.
