In recognition of National Mentoring Month, LATM was thrilled to be honored by Supervisor Solis and receive a commendation from the County of Los Angeles. In attendance at the presentation were LATM board members Jennifer Ishiguro, Yvette Urbina and Steve Sugarman as well as Beyond the Bell's Tim Bower. Also in attendance were three of our principals: Principal Samuel from Johnnie Cochran Middle School, Principal Patton from Peary Middle School and Principal Garcha from Pacoima Middle School. Los Angeles Team Mentoring’s End of the Year Achievement Report Over the past 25 years, Los Angeles Team Mentoring has strategically expanded to multiple Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Title 1 middle schools and impacted over 25,000 lives through 2.5 million hours of service. Driver Allegro Flex 6.0. We currently serve over 1300 middle-school children every week in 11 LAUSD schools through the efforts of 330 volunteer mentors.
In the summer of 2017, a blind study conducted by a third-party “ERC” in partnership with LAUSD, confirmed the following: • LATM mentees receive better grades: the mean grade point average of LATM mentees was.34 points higher in 8th grade and.40 points higher in 9th grade than the district average. • LATM’s programs and mentors keep kids in school: nearly 10% more LATM mentees completed 8th grade and 9th grade, than did students district-wide. In addition, 16% more LATM students moved forward and were promoted to 12th grade; compared to the district average. • 95% of LATM youth graduated high school, after being mentored in 6th, 7th or 8th grade verses the district graduation rate of 73%, (22% higher).
